Strong classroom management is everything! It can seriously make or break a teacher or a students' classroom experience! Educators can be the most talented, knowledgeable, and capable, but students will always struggle without solid classroom management taking place within their learning environment! Regardless if you are a novice teacher or a polished veteran, incorporating a whole-class reward system/game while regularly reviewing classroom expectations and procedures is a must!
Whole-class reward games can boost student engagement and motivate students to follow classroom expectations. Reviewing the rules often and holding students accountable can promote positive classroom culture. This type of environment helps students to work together towards a common goal. It is essential to emphasize in your classroom, “In our class, we work together, we are a team.”
Whole-class reward games promote a shared purpose amongst classmates, create a sense of community, and the development of common goals. This also aids in strengthening student camaraderie and greatly promotes on-task student behaviors.
Some essential tips when choosing a whole-class reward game:
1. Choose a game that is age-appropriate to the level and grade that you are teaching.
2. Create a classroom tracker or a visual poster that describes the positive behaviors you wish to see in your students.
3. Regularly incorporate and review classroom rules and procedures into your daily lessons or morning meetings.
4. Allow students to take part in choosing individual rewards and or class prizes.
5. Choose rewards that are meaningful to all students and, most importantly, make it fun!
Important teacher takeaways!
Find a system or whole-class reward game that motivates students! Utilize online resources to help guide you when creating the perfect whole-class reward game. Most importantly, ask for help! Find out from your co-workers or grade level teammates which system(s) may work best for your school environment, and remember to review rules and procedures often.
