1. When planning for the return to school in the fall - create a fun Staff Photo Scavenger Hunt - Team Challenge! Challenge your teams to check off all the items on the provided photo challenge list. This activity will build a fun and exciting start to the school year while promoting teamwork.

Some examples can include taking a team picture with your school mascot, taking a picture of a teammate doing a cartwheel in the gymnasium, making a team poster with an encouraging staff message, or finding an empty bulletin board and decorating it with a welcome back message! The team that successfully takes a picture of all the items on the list FIRST wins a prize! Be creative and make the challenge fit your staff’s personalities

2. Create a staff appreciation cart with some yummy treats! This one’s quite simple. Construct a cart at the beginning of the year and randomly surprise your teachers with a different treat throughout the school year. Make sure you roll your cart through the hallways and hand-deliver your goodies to your hard-working and very deserving staff members!

3. Keep your faculty meetings less of you and more of them! If you have long-winded speeches prepared, try to compose them in a short memo and provide time for your teachers to work in groups, collaborate, and utilize the time for staff development.

4. Create an appreciation station! This may be a simple board in the teachers’ lounge or a visual whiteboard in the main office, whatever you choose continuously provide shoutouts directed towards your staff that go above and beyond. Let them know you care and value their efforts both individually and collectively.

5. Give yourself a positive email challenge! Make a pledge that with every email you are going to write to your staff about general information you start off your email with at least one compliment or acknowledgment of building or individual success.

 6. Incorporate raffles into your monthly activities. Create a digital spinner and provide prizes such as candy bars or gift cards for your staff when morale needs a little boost!

7. Smile and be approachable at all times! Your vibe sets the tone for the entire school day. Make sure that you are conducting yourself professionally and regardless of the stress you feel internally do not allow that stress to trickle down to your staff.

8. Encourage mentoring! Create an inclusive environment where teachers feel free to assist and guide one another. Create a staff-to-staff or teacher to teacher mentoring program and provide them with opportunities during faculty meetings to work with others and collaborate and share best practices.

9. Furry Friends - try to incorporate service dogs or other therapy animals into your faculty meetings and learning communities. Allowing staff to work with animals is a great stress reliever and morale booster!

10. DRESS DOWN, MORALE UP! When possible allow your staff to dress down in a comfortable yet professional attire. Something so simple as a dress-down day can really help boost morale. You can also create "Dress Down Tickets" that staff can cash in throughout the school year!
