Top Items to Purchase to Keep Décor Costs Down
1. Cardboard – look for large boxes from appliance stores to paint into props! Ask them to donate large intact boxes to build into your party scene!
2. Tempera Paint – Fairly inexpensive but offers excellent coverage as you create your decorations.
3. Dollar Store Balloons – Building balloon arcs out of air-filled balloons vs. helium saves you a ton. Simply use a fishline to hold your balloons in place.
4. Use the clearance section on Orientaltrading.com! You can find some super deals here on centerpieces and standees. Paint these bargain items to match your décor.
5. Dollar store craft isle. Fill your basket with glue sticks and colorful paper to create custom pennant banners. Don’t forget to peruse the store for hanging paper fans, paper lanterns, and fringe table skirts!
6. Build your own balloon columns. With small square wooden bases and a broomstick, use a simple plumbing PVC pipe connector (floor flange) to create the ultimate balloon base.
Important teacher takeaways. Look for the bargains and don’t be scared to paint over cardboard. You can never have too much fishing line or ducktape. Have fun and enjoy the process!
